Over 23 representatives from the Iloilo Federation of Family Welfare Committees in the Workplace participated in a timely and informative Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Legislation and Mental Health Awareness Orientation at the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University in Molo, Iloilo City.

The event aimed to strengthen awareness and compliance with occupational safety and health standards and emphasize the importance of mental health in promoting a safe and supportive working environment. The orientation, which OSHC Region 6 Manager Melveen M. Melocoton facilitated, emphasized the Federation's dedication to fostering well-rounded workplace practices.

Key discussions during the event included:

  • Updates on Republic Act No. 11058, or the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Act, which ensures safer workspaces through stricter enforcement of workplace safety regulations.

  • A deep dive into the provisions of Republic Act No. 11036, also known as the Mental Health Act, emphasizing its role in protecting workers' well-being and removing the stigma around mental health issues in the workplace.

  • Practical strategies for integrating mental health programs into existing workplace safety initiatives.

The event concluded with a productive Q&A session, where attendees shared insights, sought clarifications, and committed to implementing the lessons learned in their respective organizations.

The Federation extends its gratitude to the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for their continued support and partnership in advancing the safety and mental health of workers across the locality.
